Legendary American rock band R.E.M. have announced on their website that they have decided to split up. The announcement read: "To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening."

Michael Jackson's doctor said he was "fine"
Court papers claim that Dr. Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson's personal physician, told paramedics that the star was "fine" when in reality he was dead.
Paramedic Richard Senneff, who was the first person on the scene when emergency services were called to the singer in June 2009, said in his statement that Dr. Murray stood in front of his patient's lifeless body and said: "He doesn't have a problem. He is fine. He was practising all night. I'm just treating him for dehydration."
Documents have also reveal that Richard believed the doctor lied about the medications Michael was taking. Upon being asked if the singer, the doctor apparently said: "No, he is not taking anything." After this, he admitted that he had administered the 'Thriller' star with anti-anxiety drug lorazepam "to help him sleep."
Dr. Murray is due to stand trial for the involuntary manslaughter of Jackson after being accused of administering the lethal dose of the anaesthetic Propofol. The trial is due to begin next week with Murray facing four years in prison if he is found guilty.

The Amy Winehouse Foundation launches
The Amy Winehouse Foundation, which was created by Winehouse's father Mitch along with family and friends to help a number of causes including providing support for young people, especially those in need due to "ill health, disability, financial disadvantage or addiction", was officially launched yesterday, 14 September.
Mitch said: "I was in New York when I received the terrible news about Amy. It was almost instantaneous, this feeling that we need to help people she cared about. Amy was very generous and we kept coming back to the thought of how much she loved children. It seemed appropriate that the focus of our work should be with young people, those who are vulnerable either through ill health or circumstance. Amy touched millions throughout the world and I know she will continue to, through the foundation."
