Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye will apparently not be appointed a legal aid lawyer for his murder trial. A legal aid spokesperson, Mpho Phasha, confirmed Maarohanye visited the Legal Aid SA Dobsonville Justice Centre on 7 September, but did not complete the application process so "no legal aid application was received for consideration."
Due to financial problems, Maarohanye has not paid his lawyer, Ike Motloung, who stated that if he was not paid for his services he would withdraw form the case.
Jub Jub faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol relating to an alleged drag racing accident in which four children who were on the side of the road were killed.
